What a medical GLP-1 program actually includes
A GLP-1 medication on its own is a prescription and a shipment. A medical program is the structure around it: a physician review that decides whether the medication is appropriate for you, diagnostic labs that give dosing a baseline, pharmacy fulfillment you can account for, and coaching that keeps the protocol working after the package arrives.
That last part is where most people struggle — appetite drops, and so does protein and total food intake, and muscle goes with it if nobody is watching. Coaching is not a bonus in a GLP-1 program; it is what protects the result.
Semaglutide and tirzepatide
Semaglutide is a GLP-1 receptor agonist. It slows gastric emptying and acts on appetite and satiety signaling, and it is the most widely studied of the two in the weight-management literature.
Tirzepatide acts on two receptors — GIP and GLP-1. In head-to-head weight-management research the dual-pathway mechanism has generally produced larger average reductions in body weight, and some people tolerate it differently than semaglutide.
Both are available at Origin Wellness, and which one is prescribed is a clinical decision based on your history, labs, tolerance and goals. Semaglutide guide · Tirzepatide guide
Semaglutide vs. tirzepatide: side-by-side
Semaglutide acts on the GLP-1 receptor. Tirzepatide acts on both the GIP and GLP-1 receptors. Both are offered at Origin Wellness as a Microdose protocol and as a Weight Loss protocol, and a physician decides which is appropriate after reviewing your assessment and labs.
| Consideration | Semaglutide | Tirzepatide |
|---|---|---|
| Receptor pathway | GLP-1 receptor agonist | Dual GIP and GLP-1 receptor agonist |
| Evidence base | The most widely studied of the two in weight-management research | Head-to-head weight-management research has generally shown larger average reductions in body weight |
| Protocols offered | Microdose Semaglutide and Standard (Weight Loss) Semaglutide | Microdose Tirzepatide and Standard (Weight Loss) Tirzepatide |
| Tolerance | Gastrointestinal side effects such as nausea are the most commonly reported | Similar side-effect profile; some people tolerate one better than the other |

Two ways each medication is offered
Microdose protocol. Low doses, a gentler curve, and a focus on metabolic and appetite signaling rather than maximum weight reduction. It is commonly used by people who are close to their target weight, who are sensitive to side effects, or whose goal is metabolic health, energy and appetite regulation. How microdosing works
Weight Loss protocol. The standard titration schedule, stepped up over time under supervision, for people whose primary goal is a meaningful change in body composition. Weight-loss protocol guide
People move between the two. A common pattern is a Weight Loss protocol during the active phase, then a microdose protocol for maintenance — but that is a physician's call at each review, not a fixed plan.
Labs, coaching and the pharmacy path
Labs. Diagnostic lab testing is available as part of the process — metabolic markers, and anything else your history warrants — so dosing decisions rest on baseline data and follow-up labs.
Coaching. Coaching support for active clients covers protein and nutrition targets, resistance training to protect lean mass, sleep, hydration, and practical management of nausea or other side effects. Fitness coaching and nutrition counseling are part of what Origin offers alongside the protocol.
Pharmacy. Prescriptions are filled by a licensed 503(A) compounding pharmacy partner, operating under federal and state regulation, and shipped to you.
Who it is not for
GLP-1 medications are not appropriate for everyone. A physician reviews contraindications — including personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma or MEN2, pancreatitis, pregnancy or breastfeeding, and certain gastrointestinal conditions — and declines the protocol when it is not appropriate. If your situation needs in-person care, that is what you will be told.
TRT and HRT: Coming Soon
Testosterone replacement therapy and hormone replacement therapy are upcoming at Origin Wellness. They are listed as Coming Soon, are not bookable today, and are not part of a GLP-1 program.

Frequently asked questions
What is a physician-prescribed GLP-1 program?
A licensed physician reviews your health assessment and lab work and decides whether a GLP-1 medication — semaglutide or tirzepatide — is clinically appropriate for you. If it is, the prescription is filled by a licensed 503(A) compounding pharmacy partner and shipped to you, and coaching continues while you are on it.
What is the difference between a Microdose protocol and a Weight Loss protocol?
A Microdose protocol uses low doses aimed at metabolic and appetite signaling with a gentler dose curve, and is often used by people who are not primarily trying to lose a large amount of weight. A Weight Loss protocol uses the standard titration schedule for body-composition goals. A physician decides which one is appropriate, and people move between them over time.
Semaglutide or tirzepatide — which one?
Semaglutide acts on the GLP-1 receptor. Tirzepatide acts on both GIP and GLP-1 receptors. Both are offered as Microdose and Weight Loss protocols. Which one is prescribed depends on your history, labs, tolerance and goals, and that decision is made by the physician, not by you choosing from a menu.
Are labs required?
Diagnostic lab testing is available as part of the process so that dosing decisions are made on baseline data and follow-up labs rather than a questionnaire alone.
Is coaching included?
Coaching support is part of the program for active clients: nutrition and protein targets, training, sleep, dosing questions, and side-effect management. The medication is one input; what you do around it is the rest.
Is TRT or HRT part of this?
No. Testosterone replacement and hormone replacement therapy are upcoming at Origin Wellness and are listed as Coming Soon. They are not bookable today.
